Create a Healthy Lifestyle with Fall Ayurveda Tips

What is a healthy lifestyle in our modern world?

Exercising at the gym may not be enough to combat unhealthy habits like caffeine and energy drinks, eating processed foods or skipping meals, overindulging in sweets or alcohol, and daily stress.

You can take a step today to regain control of your health!

I've followed a healthy lifestyle with Ayurveda for 40 years. Ayurveda, "the science of life," is an ancient holistic medicine derived in India over 3000 years ago. It utilizes food as a medicine, as well as natural treatments and healthy lifestyle to maintain health and prevent disease through a holistic approach.

Ayurveda practices balancing your Dosha/constitution, by balancing the elements of ether (space), air, fire, water, and earth in your body and mind. The three Doshas in Ayurveda are called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Fall represents the Vata season, where air and ether elements are most dominant. It's considered a dry, cold, rough, and mobile season which can lead to physical dryness, skin, joint and digestive problems, and mental imbalance.

Try These Ayurveda Tips To Boost Your Health This Fall

  1. Drink a glass of warm water first thing in the morning, and at night (a few hours after dinner) to balance the Fall-Vata conditions, which can cause symptoms like dryness, anxiety, and sluggish digestion. Enjoy adding lemon juice, ginger, or apple cider vinegar to warm water to stimulate digestion, aid in cleansing, and balance your pH.
  2. Eat warming foods such as cooked foods, rooted vegetables, healthy fats, and warming spices to balance the dry and cool Vata Season. Warming, grounding foods and liquids support slower digestion for assimilation of nutrients, building immunity, and preventing symptoms like dryness, restlessness, and digestive upset.
  3. Exercise during the early morning and evening hours (6:00-10:00am and 6:00-10:00pm.) These periods are Kapha-dominated, providing earth energy, counteracting the cold, dry, and mobile qualities of Vata season's inherent sluggishness and heaviness.
